Pakistani force seizes over 6,748 kg drugs valuing 234 mln USD in 24 hours

Islamabad, Apr 30 (Xinhua) Pakistan's Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) have seized 6748.339 kg of narcotics valuing 234.325 million US dollars in 24 hours in different operations across the country, a statement said on Thursday.
According to the statement issued by the ANF, the force conducted 23 counter-narcotics strikes throughout the country and arrested 26 culprits, including a foreign national and recovered drugs and weapons from the smugglers.
The biggest recoveries of 2,200 kg and 2,165 kg were made in two different areas of the country's southwest district Qilla Abdullah, a region sharing border with Afghanistan. The officials said that the drugs were smuggled from Afghanistan into the bordering district to supply them to other areas of Pakistan.
The ANF arrested a Nigerian national after he landed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in the eastern city of Lahore and found ingested capsules filled with drugs in his stomach. The accused was admitted to a hospital where he delivered 62 cocaine-filled capsules weighing 1.086 kg, said the statement.
The force has registered cases of all 23 successful operations and launched a broad investigation to bust the rackets of the drug smugglers.
Pakistan has enhanced the intelligence and operation capacity of its anti-narcotics force during the last 10 years after intelligence agencies reported that drug money was being used in terrorist activities.
Pakistan launched its new Anti-Narcotics Policy in 2010, which has three major sections, including drug supply reduction, drug demand reduction and international cooperation. Pakistan has been an active member of the United Nations Commission on Narcotics Drugs (CND) where it has contributed to world drug issues under its principle of multilateralism and international cooperation.
