Night clock triggers drop chicken prices in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Chicken prices in Hyderabad have dropped significantly due to the drop in demand for hotels and restaurants amid night clock in Telangana. Apart from that, COVID-19 Restrictions in neighboring states have also contributed to the decline in the price of chicken in Hyderabad.

According to a report published in the Times of India, the price of skinless chicken was Rs. 280 per kg a few weeks ago dropped to Rs. 160 per kg.

Earlier this month, chicken prices in Hyderabad rose significantly due to an increase in demand and the decline in production. However, the price trend has suddenly reversed as demand has declined since the introduction of night clocks in the state.

Reasons for sudden drop in chicken prices in Hyderabad

Ranjit Reddy, president of Telangana Poultry Breeders Association, said the hospitality industry accounts for 30 percent of the revenue from the poultry industry. Due to the introduction of night clocks in the state, the demand from the industry has decreased, he added.

Vinay Samudrala, an owner of a hatchery in Warangal, said chickens from these states are entering markets in Telangana due to the closure in Maharashtra and Karnataka, leading to imbalance in supply and demand.

The decline in marriages in Hyderabad due to night time has also contributed to the decline in chicken prices in the city.

Night Clock in Telangana

The ten-day night clock set by the Telangana government on April 20 will run until the morning of May 1. Until now, the government did not know whether the evening clock would continue or not.

Even the High Court in Telangana tried to know the state government’s further plan to stop the government COVID-19 boom in the state.

COVID-19 sake in Telangana

Meanwhile, the state registered 7646 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the total infection to more than 4.35 lakh. The death toll rose to 2,261 with another 53 deaths, the health bulletin said on Friday.

Among the total number of new cases reported, the area in Greater Hyderabad was the largest number of cases in 1441, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri (631) and Ranga Reddy (484). The state has 77,727 active cases. The death rate in the state is also 0.51 percent, compared to 1.1 percent nationally. The recovery rate in Telangana is set at 81.63 percent, while the country is 82 percent.
