New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear a case on Friday in which it takes note of issues regarding oxygen supply, drug supply and vaccine policy in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The trial begins at noon.
A bank headed by Judge DY Chandrachud will hear a plea for the oxygen cylinders, essential medicines and extra medical staff in Maharashtra hospitals by the Central Government.
A PIL will also be filed regarding an independent judicial inquiry into the Nashik oxygen leak case that claimed 24 lives.
On April 22, the apex court took note of the ‘worrying situation’ with regard to various health emergencies, including oxygen deficiency, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and sent a notice to the center to provide an answer on types of immediate and effective action it may take to deal with such a situation.
The court asked the center during the previous trial to suggest it and investigate whether a national plan could be drawn up to deal with this worrying situation. It made these remarks after taking note of at least six different high courts, including the Delhi High Court, and including them in the report, and hearing the case on the same issues.
