  • The man arrested for allegedly killing a missing Lenasia woman has abandoned his bail application.
  • Lucky Mshubi appeared in the Lenasia Magistrate's Court on Friday.
  • He will remain in custody until his next appearance in June.

Lucky Mshubi, the man arrested for the murder of a missing Lenasia woman, will not apply for bail.

"Mshubi will remain in custody after he indicated to the court that he does not wish to apply for bail and opted to conduct his own defence," Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said in a statement on Friday.

This comes after Mshubi, 36, appeared in the Lenasia Magistrate's Court on charges of murder, housebreaking with intent to rob, robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping, and defeating the ends of justice.

Mshubi was arrested following the discovery of the body of a woman who was reportedly abducted in Lenasia South.

The body - identified as that of Naadira Vanker - was found in a shallow grave at Phumlamqashi.

"The cause of death is yet to be determined," Mjonondwane added.

The case was postponed to 26 June for further investigation.

The Gauteng NPA adds that investigations in this case are ongoing and are prosecutorially guided.

"Therefore, the NPA will not be commenting on any matter related to investigations and/or merits of the case," Mjonondwane concluded.
