Telangana takes control of Tocilizumab injections for Covid patients

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has taken control of the distribution of Tocilizumab injection for Covid-19 patients in the state.

The state government set up a committee on Friday to award Tocilizumab medicine to Covid-19 patients in government and private hospitals in the state.

The three-member committee consists of the director of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), the Director of Medical Education and the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, as ordered by the Secretary of State for Health, Medical and Family Welfare SAM Rizvi.

The Office of the Director of Medical Education will receive the requests for Tocilizumab from the hospitals for specific patients and place them immediately before the committee.

The patient-directed request from hospitals should have a detailed recommendation from a team of three specialist doctors from the hospital who prescribe the medicine, to the patient’s condition.

The committee will award the drug after meeting the criteria that include no active bacteria / fungus / tubercular infection, which does not improve, despite the use of steroids, significantly increased inflammatory markers (CRP & / or IL-6) and the presence of serious illness 24 to 48 hours after the onset of serious illness / ICU admission).
