F1 Kicks-Off New Sprint Race Format This Weekend: New Race Weekend Format Introduced In 2021

Formula 1 is all set to introduce a new format of racing at this weekend's Portugese GP. For the first time ever, F1 will host a sprint race format. This format is expected to engage the viewers throughout the weekend and not just during the main race. Of the 23 Grands Prix scheduled to take place this year, three race weekends will follow the new sprint race format.

The 2021 Formula 1 season will have three such sprint format race weekends. The first one is the Portugese GP that will take place at Portimao. The other two haven't been confirmed yet, but are rumoured to be Silverstone and Monza.

The Formula 1 season this year is quite interesting indeed. After just two races this season, Lewis Hamilton is at the top of the standings with 44 points followed closely by Max Verstappen with 43 points. The top-three are completed by Lando Norris with 27 points.

Mercedes-AMG is at the top of the constructors championship with 60 points, followed by Red Bull Racing Honda with 53 points and McLaren Mercedes with 41 points. With the sprint races come more opportunities to score points.

F1 has always been an interesting sport. Now, the sprint race weekends are set to increase the fun-quotient. There are more opportunities to score points and they also make for more overtaking action. We're certainly looking forward to the action. Stay tuned for updates.
