Hyderabad: The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) plans to award practical marks based on the practical records submitted by second-year students without taking practical examinations.
This proposal of the Council comes because several junior college management could not take practical classes for the students during the academic year 2020-21 due to the temporary closure of educational institutions in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Earlier, the Council proposed to hold the practical exams from 7 to 20 April. However, it has been postponed and it is proposed that it be held after Intermediate Public Examinations in May.
‘Several colleges did not offer practical classes. This time, therefore, we plan to award practical marks to students on the basis of practical records submitted by middle students in a particular subject without practical examinations. A proposal has been sent to the state government for a nod, ‘a council official said.
The government has earlier decided to promote all first-year students without exams and scheduled exams when the situation becomes possible at a future date. Similarly, all second-year students who had a backlog in the first year were passed by giving minimum marks.
The interim public examinations for second-year students would start from 1 May, but it has already been postponed by the state government due to the increase in the Covid incidents. The Board said that a review would be held in the first week of June and that future examination dates would be announced at least 15 days before the commencement of the examination.
Meanwhile, a senior official of the Council ruled out passing the intermediate second-year students without holding the intermediate public examinations. There were reports that the Board would pass all intermediate second-year students taking into account their average first-year marks.
‘Given the pandemic situation, the interim public investigations will be delayed, but it will be held. First-year intermediate marks of students cannot be considered as criteria for passing of second-year students. The second-year students will therefore not pass the examination, ”said the senior official.
