'Shooter Dadi' Chandro Tomar dies due to COVID-19 complications, Taapsee Pannu, Bhumi Pednekar pay condolences

Chandro Tomar, one of the oldest sharpshooters passed away due to COVID-19 complications. She was called 'Shooter Dadi' and made a mark across the globe for winning many competitions in the shooting. Chandro along with her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar held the gun for the first time after they become senior citizens. They smashed the patriarchy and are among the beloved sports icons in the country.

A biopic was made on them titled Saand Ki Aankh in which Bhumi Pednekar played Chandro Tomar. She paid heartbreaking condolence to her by tweeting, "Devastated by the news of Chandro Dadi’s demise. Feels like a part of me is gone. She made her own rules & paved the path for many girls to find their dream. Her legacy will live on in them. Condolences to the family. While Taapsee Pannu, who was seen as Prakashi Tomar shared a photo with Chandro and wrote, "For the inspiration, you will always be... You will live on forever in all the girls you gave hope to live. My cutest rockstar May the peace be with you."

Hardeep Singh Puri also paid his condolence by writing, "An epitome of gender equality & champion of women’s rights Smt Chandro Tomar, known as ‘Shooter Dadi’ by her fans & admirers is no more. The courage with which she challenged patriarchy & took up shooting as a sport will inspire generations to come. Condolences to her family."

Chandro Tomar breathed her last at the age of 89.
