Tortured in custody allegations raised

A 62 year-old man, who is on bail in connection with Kanan Veng shooting incident has filed a police complaint alleging 'maximum torture and harassment by the police while in custody' .
"They blindfolded me and took me to an isolated place and threatened to kill me," said N Thangchinhau.
He was in the custody of Churachandpur police station from April 21 to 28 .
He was arrested for interrogation in connection with the Kanan incident where one Jimmy was found shot dead on January 12 .
The complaint, he filed at the Churachandpur police station today said he was "tortured to the maximum" and was subjected to "electric shock" in the police custody.
"I had been tortured to the maximum including electric shock etc.
Besides, I was taken out of the lock-up twice for interrogation before the Joint Interrogation Cell, Imphal.
Even such tortures as part of interrogation and investigation, I can tolerate.
However...," said the 62-year-old man in his complaint and further alleged that one night, he was taken to an isolated place and threatened to kill.
"...on 24/04/2021, at around 9 pm two men in civil dress blindfolded me inside the lockup and thereafter made me sit in a car.
From CCpur PS they took me to an isolated place and made me walk uphill in the darkness.
And on top of the hill they interrogated me by torturing, made me touch and feel their pistol and warned me that they will kill me on the spot," said the complaint.
He further alleged that the two persons, who took him on top of the hill "seemed to be drunk".
"...I could smell alcohol in their breath.
They asked me all unrelated/irrelevant questions...The whole ordeal lasted for about two hours," read the complaint.
N Thangchinhau was released on bail yesterday (April 28) .
"Unable to bear the mental and physical pain," he went to the District Hospital today for health checkup, he said in the complaint asking police to register an FIR and take up legal actions against the investigating officer and other police personnel involved.
N Thangchinhau, of LV Lane, New Lamka, Churachandpur is former vice chairman of Central Working Committee of the Paite Tribe Council, said sources.
