CHENNAI: The Narcotics Control Bureau, Chennai zone, has seized one kg of amphetamine, a very potent stimulant drug banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Based on specific information, NCB officers seized 0.99 kg of Amphetamine from a courier at Guindy on April 24. The consignment containing four numbers each of cricket batting gloves and thigh pads was destined to Auckland in New Zealand, according to a statement from the NCB. NCB officers found that some suspicious material was hidden inside the thigh pads. Extraction and testing of the hidden material revealed that it was amphetamine. Immediate follow up actions initiated under the supervision of NCB zonal director Amit Ghawate led to the arrest of two men, identified as Ashwin T and C Surendran, on April 28. Further investigations were under way to unearth the larger network involved in this case, an NCB statement said.
