Facebook has ‘incorrectly’ blocked posts in which Modi has to resign

New Delhi: Facebook has claimed that it has incorrectly blocked posts resigning from the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi due to the alleged persons Covid-19 mismanagement of the pandemic and said the company did not hide the posts on behalf of the government.

Buzzfeed News first reported that Facebook temporarily hid messages with the hashtag or text #ResignModi because ‘some content in those posts violates our community standards’.

The Facebook users who tried to see the hashtag saw a message that Facebook was temporarily hiding the posts to keep the community safe.

In a statement given to The Verge late Wednesday, Facebook said it had now restored the posts and that the hashtag had been “accidentally” blocked.

The company said the Indian government had not asked to remove the hashtag.

Facebook also said the block was the result of some of the content the hashtag used, “but did not specify what kind of content”.

Earlier this week, Twitter withdrew at least 50 tweets from the Indian government, criticizing the government for poor handling of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The data available on the Lumen database showed that the micro-blogging platform deleted more than 50 tweets from people like Revanth Reddy, a Telangana MP; Moloy Ghatak, Prime Minister of West Bengal; two filmmakers; an actor and others.

A Twitter spokesman said in a statement that he would review it under Twitter rules and local law when it receives a valid legal request.

“If the content violates the rules of Twitter, the content of the service will be removed. “In all cases, we will notify the account holder directly so that he is aware that we have received a legal order regarding the account,” the company said in a statement.

In February, Twitter took a series of enforcement actions against certain Twitter accounts after the Indian government ordered it to take down more than 500 accounts due to clear violations of its rules.

In another daily record, India on Wednesday reported nearly 3.8 lakh new cases and 3,645 deaths, while 14 states and UTs recorded their highest number of one-day cases.
