India Women’s Cricket Team Head Coach: Sulakshan Kulkarni throws hat in fray for the job

India Women’s Cricket Team Head Coach: Former Mumbai wicketkeeper-batsman Sulkshan Kulkarni has applied for the job of head coach in India women’s team. Mumbai had won the Ranji Trophy with Kulkarni as coach in the 2012-13 season and has reached the semifinals in 2011-12 and the last eight in the 2013-14 season during his three-year tenure. Besides, the 54-year-old has also coach Vidarbha and Chhatisgarh too. The last date for applying was April 26.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had invited applications for the post after WV Raman’s contract ended last October.

Having coached so many teams successfully, I’m confident that I will take the Indian women’s cricket team forward,” Kulkarni told Times of India.

As per the job listing, the head coach will have to work with the women’s national team, India A and U-19 teams (Women’s).

The head coach will be picked by the BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee, which is headed by Madan Lal and includes two other members in RP Singh and Sulakshana Naik. The interview process is expected to be held online soon.

The selection committee had emailed BCCI urging to appoint a female in key positions in India women’s team.

It is notable that Purnima Rau was the last female coach for India women till April 2017.

As per a report from ESPNCricinfo, Hemlatha Kala, Nooshin Al Khadeer, Jaya Sharma, Mamatha Maben, Suman Sharma are among the leading female candidates in the race for the top job.

Hemlatha Kala- Chief of the previous selection committee

Mamatha Maben– Formerly coached Bangladesh and Chinese women’s national teams

Suman Sharma – Held coaching positions in Women’s T20 Challenge

Nooshin Al Khadeer– Coached several women’s state sides

Jaya Sharma– Part of the women’s selection panel of the Delhi state body

Others in the fray are Ramesh Powar, Tushar Arothe and WV Raman.
