Imphal, April 28 2021: A high-level meeting convened today at Panchayat Bhavan, Porompat discussed the Covid situation in the State.

The meeting organised by district administration Imphal East and chaired by Imphal East DC in charge, Shamim Ahmad Shah was attended by Imphal East SP, Yogeshchandra Haobijam; CMO L Indira Devi; District Malaria Officer S Priyokumar and SDO Porompat T Milikant among others.

The meeting deliberated on ways to handle the second wave of the pandemic, increase the bed capacity, health care facilities at JNIMS, boost the contact tracing process, lodge Covid patients in home isolation and step up raising awareness of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for COVID-19 with the help of local stakeholders.

At the meeting, L Indira Devi said that one Covid testing centre has already been opened at State Kala Akademi, Palace Compound and the contact tracing process is continuing unabated.

Saying that symptomatic patients are admitted at JNIMS for treatment, the CMO continued that the district administration is working to lodge asymptomatic Covid patients at Bal Bhawan, Khuman Lampak and National Sports University.

Indira further asserted that strict adherence to Covid safety measures is vital as the second wave of the pandemic is more threatening and severe than the first wave.

Pointing out that getting vaccinated for COVID-19 doesn't necessarily mean one is immune to the virus, the CMO urged all who have been vaccinated to continue obeying the Covid appropriate behaviour laid down by the Government and experts.

As observation is required after getting vaccinated, it is best to take Covid vaccine at Primary Health Centre (PHC), Community Health Centre (CHC) and Urban Primary Health Centre, she apprised.

The CMO also shared the mobile numbers of Covid Control Room, Imphal East (7630076391/7630076564) and for contact tracing (8787322018/9863594874).Meanwhile, the SP highlighted the difficulty being faced by the Police Department in implementing the Covid safety guidelines of the Government, saying that police had run into SOP violators who tested positive for COVID-19 in the past.

Yogesh Chandra also said that the police occasionally discover SOP violators who cannot afford the penalty fixed by the Government.

Saying that the Police and Medical Departments alone cannot beat the pandemic, he urged the people of Manipur to follow the orders issued by the Government from time to time to contain the virus.
