But then he faced Prithvi Shaw and his cutters and swingers all went for a toss as the Delhi Capitals batsman smashed six fours in his over. In the process, Mavi became only the second bowler to be hit for six 4s in one over after Sreenath Aravind in IPL 2012. It was also the third most expensive first over in IPL history.
Defending 154, Kolkata Knight Riders depended a lot on the bowlers to bring out their best. But Shivam Mavi did not get his momentum. After starting with a big wide ball, Prithvi Shaw took him on with six consecutive boundaries off his over. As a result, Eoin Morgan never gave him another over at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Ball 5: Full-toss and smashed for a 4. Shivam Mavi’s attempted slower ball lands as a full-toss and Shaw whipped it for 4 off the cover.
Ball 6: Yet another ball with enough width for Prithvi Shaw to smash for 4 behind point.
Ball 7: Fuller delivery outside off and Shaw smashes it off the extra cover for 4.

Record 1: 2nd bowler to be hit for six 4s in one over:
Incidentally, another current Delhi Capitals batsman holds the record of hitting six 4s in one over and that is Ajinkya Rahane. In IPL 2013, playing for Rajasthan Royals, Rahane hit six 4s of RCB’s Sreeenath Aravind. Thus, Shivam Mavi became only the 2nd player to get hit for six 4s in an over.
Record 2: 3rd most expensive first over in IPL history: If getting hit for six 4s was not enough, Shivam Mavi created another unwanted record of the 3rd most expensive first over in IPL by conceding 25 runs. Mumbai Indians’ Abu Nechim conceded 27 runs against RCB in IPL 2011, making it the most expensive first over in IPL while Harbhajan Singh gave away 26 runs against KKR in IPL 2013, also for Mumbai Indians.
