New parcel pickup networks and locations in Perth, Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland have been launched, Amazon announced, expanding its Amazon Hub Network.
As Australians return to the office in the meantime, the expansion of its parcel pickup network widens customers’ choices when it comes to package delivery.
Independent research commissioned by Amazon Australia revealed that one in five Aussies (19%) don’t have a secure location to leave their parcels at their home and therefore prefer to have their package delivered to a pickup location.
Amazon claims its expanded network will also likely be “welcome news for more than 1.8 million Australians for whom having the option to deliver to a nearby, secure location with collection when it suits them, is the most important factor in their delivery experience.”
Craig Fuller, Director of Operations, Amazon Australia, says most Australians stayed home last year with nearly half (49%) increased their online shopping habits.
Fuller explains: “Many are returning to the office on a full or part time basis and have less consistency about when we will be home. We expect our expanded Amazon Hub network of more than 750 locations will be welcomed for the choice and convenience it offers, and we are pleased to be able to extend this network to our West Australian customers.”
The research also revealed that one in five Australians (21%) prefer to have their orders delivered to a parcel pickup point rather than their home in order to keep it a surprise from someone in their household.
Amazon claims “shipping to a location is easy and secure.”
“Customers proceed to checkout and select the Locker or Counter pickup point that’s most convenient for them as their delivery location. As soon as their parcel arrives, customers receive an e-mail notification with a unique barcode and six-digit code that they’ll use to retrieve their parcel. At the Locker, customers will scan the barcode to retrieve their parcel. For Counter locations, customers will provide the barcode or the six-digit code to store staff, who will scan it, retrieve the parcel, and hand it to the customer. Customers have three days to collect their parcel from a Locker and seven days to collect their parcel from a Counter location”, Amazon instructs.
Amazon Hub, launched in Sydney and Melbourne in 2019, Queensland and South Australia last year, and now available in Western Australia, offers hundreds of Locker and Counter locations, situated in shopping centres, banks, newsagents, and retailers.
