This is the latest development in a criminal investigation by federal prosecutors that has been underway for months, according to the report.

Rudy is at the center of the investigation regarding his activities in Ukraine, although he has not been charged and maintains his innocence.

According to the New York Times, investigators seized his electronic devices and searched his apartment on Madison Avenue and his office on Park Avenue at about 6 a.m.

His lawyer, Robert J. Costello, called the searches unnecessary.

“What they did today was legal thuggery. Why would you do this to anyone, let alone someone who was the associate attorney general, United States attorney, the mayor of New York City and the personal lawyer to the 45th president of the United States,” the lawyer said.

CNN also noted that it is unusual for prosecutors to execute a search warrant on a lawyer, but Manhattan federal prosecutors have done it before, including more recently another former lawyer for Trump, Michael Cohen.

“To obtain a search warrant, investigators need to persuade a judge they have sufficient reason to believe that a crime was committed and that the search would turn up evidence of the crime,” the NYT also noted of the investigation.

Earlier in the year, his daughter made headlines for an entirely different reason regarding her sex life.
