Three candidates will vie for two positions on the Jasper Independent School District School Board on Election Day this Saturday.

One incumbent is among the three candidates, so there will be at least one new face on the board and possibly two. With two seats up for election and three candidates the top two vote getters will be elected to the school board.

Local orthodontist Van Cammack is the incumbent and currently serves as the board’s vice president.

The other position was opened with LeQuin Hilderbrand’s decision not to seek reelection.

Requests for candidate information were made to all three contenders, Cammack, Brianna Brooks and Bruce Bevel. Only Bevel made information available to the Newsboy.

Bevel is a Jasper graduate and one of his two children graduated from Jasper as well.

“I want to bring exceptional change and listen to parents, staff and students to bring about solutions to issues,” Bevel said.

Bevel said he believes the school board’s job is to provide training, supplies, equipment and support for staff to better the learning environment for students. Bevel said his main goal in running for the school board is to foster and strengthen relationships with students, parents and district staff to make the Jasper ISD truly great.

Voting locations for Saturday will be at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1942 N. Main; Parnell Elementary School, 151 Park St.; the Jasper Municipal Building, 465 S. Main; and Jasper High School, 400 Bulldog Ave.
