Covid Maharashtra patients make their way to Mancherial hospitals

Mancherial: There is a steady stream of Covid patients from neighboring Maharashtra to hospitals in Mancherial Town due to better healthcare services. The medical fraternity is in a predicament because the influx of patients has not only increased the local numbers but also contributes to the spread of the virus, while not many follow the safety protocol.

The neighboring state has seen a huge increase in infections and deaths, and hundreds of families living in the border areas far from their headquarters now rely on private nursing homes in Mancherial. Residents of Sironcha in the Gadchiroli district, for example, are being forced to come to hospitals in Mancherial because they would otherwise have to travel 210 km for a hospital in their headquarters. Instead, they can easily reach the city of Mancherial, which is barely 60 km from Sironcha and the surrounding villages of this Taluq in Maharashtra.

‘Family members and relatives of the patients, however, do not take precautions to control the spread of the virus. They do not wear masks nor do they keep physical distance. They move freely in streets around the hospitals. “I feel their negligence is one of the factors that has contributed to the unprecedented increase in positive cases in the city,” remarked a resident of Janmabhoomi Nagar.

The locals requested the relevant authorities to strictly enforce Covid-19 protocol to check the increasing number of relatives of Maharashtra patients visiting the hospitals. They urged the hospitals to ensure that the staff wear the infected masks and take physical distance. They fear that their negligence would result in a major boom in the city.
