Congress veteran Janardan Singh Gehlot died in Jaipur today. Many veteran leaders including Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot have mourned the death of Janardan Singh Gehlot, the founder of the International Kabaddi Federation and the vice-president of the Indian Olympic Association.


Janardan Singh Gehlot, who was close to Sanjay Gandhi, defeated BJP veteran and former Vice President late Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in the Assembly elections from the Gandhi Nagar seat of Jaipur at one time. Janardan Singh Gehlot had joined the Congress again before the last Lok Sabha election, breaking ties with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Janardhan Gehlot joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2008, leaving the Congress.

He has been the General Secretary and Vice President of the State Congress Committee for nearly twenty years with the President of the Youth Congress. He won the assembly elections from Karauli thrice.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted that my deepest condolences on the demise of Shri Janardhan Singh Gehlot, former Minister and Founder President of the International Kabaddi Federation. He made a significant contribution in the political field and sports world. May God give the grief-stricken family the power to bear the brunt and give peace to the departed soul.
