The curfew timings were revised during a review meeting chaired by VP Singh Badnore, the administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
CHANDIGARH: To contain the spread of coronavirus infection, the Chandigarh administration on Wednesday changed night curfew timings from 9pm to 5am to 6pm to 5am.
The decision was taken in the review meeting chaired by VP Singh Badnore, the administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
In the meeting, it was decided that all shops, malls, multiplexes etc. will close by 5pm everyday with home delivery allowed till 9pm.
All non-essential activities will be banned during the night curfew. This will come into effect from April 29, and will be in force till further orders.
As per the decision, all educational institutions, school, colleges, coaching institutions, libraries etc. will remain closed till May 15.
Meanwhile, decision on whether to continue weekend lockdown or not, will be taken in a day or two.
Badnore expressed serious concern about the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the city.
He directed the hospital authorities to increase the number of ICU beds.
He suggested that non-critical patients or mild/moderate cases, where patients can be shifted to Covid Care Centres or could receive medication at home could be accordingly discharged.
All beds should be kept in reserve for severe and critical cases only, he said.
Badnore further directed the police to provide adequate protection to the doctors and other health staff in various hospitals, since many of them are facing anger and misbehaviour from agitated attendants of the Covid patients.
