The sweet side of entrepreneurship

With the Jefferson County community-wide Lemonade Day event approaching this Sunday, budding entrepreneurs vied for another title Tuesday - “best tasting” lemonade. It is the second mini-contest of the program - the first was a “best of the zest” marketing competition, won by the team of Jael and Shaniya Cormier and Jessica Broussard.

Participants showcased their lemonade recipes at the Christus Health and Wellness Center - some choosing the traditional route, while others explored fruity fusions.

After the four judges sampled and resampled each, Luke Sutton’s strawberry lemonade took the top prize, earning him a large gift basket and $300.00 voucher at the HWC. Second place went to Ezra Truncali, and third awarded to the Jackson family team of Marcus, Amiyah and Skylar, who added simple syrup flavorings to their lemonade base, creating a layered colorful effect to their entries.

The national program aims to teach children the basics of entrepreneurship - creating a solid product, marketing it, raising money and working with businesses to place their stands for Sunday’s main event. It also features a charitable aspect, with participants encouraged to share a portion of their proceeds with the community.
