Last year, Indian cinema lost one of its all-time greats in Irrfan Khan. The nuanced actor left a huge impression on Indian and global cinema. As his first death anniversary draws close, people are doing interviews with his wife, Sutapa Sikdar and son, Babil Khan. It seems in an interview to a leading daily, Sutapa Sikdar said that he was planning for his son Babil's film career, and even looking at scripts for him. Sutapa told the paper, "If Babil only wants to do films then this film will change many things. I (Irrfan) want to do this film with him. I would like to act or direct.’ He was not prepared, he was planning things for his son’s career and then suddenly." Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour in 2018. This happened before the release of Blackmail. The actor flew off to the UK for treatment. He was in London for many months. After his return, he completed work on Angrezi Medium. But the actor did not survive to release the film in the theatres. He died due to an infection. Babil Khan is making his debut with Qala, which is a film for Netflix. The movie also stars Tripti Dimri. It is being made by Anushka Sharma's Clean Slate Films. In another interview, Babil Khan told Film Companion, "I was there in the hospital, two-three days before he died. He was losing consciousness and one of the last things he said...he just looked at me, smiled and said 'I am going to die' and I told him 'No you are not'. He then smiled again and went back to sleep." He passed away at Mumbai's Kokilaben Hospital. The actor was remembered in the In Memorian section of the 93rd Academy Awards. It would have been an experience to see father and son together on celluloid.
