Do workouts need to be specific, or you could go with anything?

Do workouts need to be specifically built for you? or you could go with anything as long as you lift hard and progress with it (obviously programs with logic)

Im asking this cause im not sure if they need to be as specific as the diet needs to be you know, a diet is needed to be fit for each individual to be able to progress, but im not so sure about workouts, also i say this, cause im sure if you were to sign up to multiple personal trainers, all of them would probably give you different workout routines, but similar diets, since the calories you need would be the same to progress coming from all of the trainers, as well as foods.

So long story short, do workouts need to be as specific as your diet? Or you can go for the excercices that you feel better with and have more fun with?

They don't need to be specially made for you. It's possible to construct a "cookie cutter" routine that will work well for most people - especially novices. The routines we have in the Workout Programs forum sticky threads will all work for 99% of people IF and only if they follow them carefully and don't flake out on certain details or progression. So called "non responders" are very rare, there is usually a more mundane reason why it's not working - probably not eating enough or trying hard enough or being consistent.

Diet dies NOT need to fit the individual - at least not as far as the basics are concerned - calories and protein are the things that matter. These vary depending on your metabolic rate and overall size but, again, there are recommendations that will work well for most people and you can tweak as you go along. Perhaps you prefer certain foods or some things give you digestive issue or make you feel sluggish - sure you can tweak your diet but this is just trial and error and no trainer will ultimately do anything different with some kind of foreknowledge...
