The Redmi K40 series debuted in February with a total of three models to choose from. The team has now added a fourth option i.e. Redmi K40 Gaming Edition. It is a smartphone that has select hardware specifications and features specifically aimed at mobile gamers. However, the physical appearance of the device is still similar to a normal phone with no gaming phone vibes.
The Redmi K40 Gaming Edition sports a 6.67-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display with a centered punch-hole. It offers a 120Hz refresh rate, 480Hz touch sampling rate, 10-bit colors, HDR10+ support, and DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. While the other three phones in the series have a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, the team has opted for the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor for this particular variant.
The smartphone is available in five different configurations featuring up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB onboard storage. Redmi has offered vapor chamber LiquidCool technology to keep the device temperature low during long gaming sessions. There are only three cameras on the back of the phone. These include a 64-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.65 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 2-megapixel sensor. The front camera is a 16-megapixel sensor that you will find inside the punch-hole.
The whole package is powered by a 5,065mAh battery with 67W fast charging support. It will be shipped with MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11. Other important features include physical shoulder triggers, three microphones, support for Dolby Atmos, audio tuned by JBL, and an L-shaped USB Type-C connector.
