Bharti Airtel's CEO Gopal Vittal, in a letter to the telco's subscribers, informed them of the steps taken to ensure all remain connected in these difficult times and not fall prey to cyber-fraud.

"The well-being of our dear ones, access to medical support and services when needed, are foremost on all our minds. My heart goes out to each one of you who have suffered in this second wave; and I hope and pray that we will come out of this soon," said Vittal in his letter on Wednesday.

This email from the second largest operator in India comes at a time when India has recorded more than 3.6 lakh cases of people suffering from Covid-19.

Vittal informed the subscribers that the operator has invested Rs 18000 crores in "precious spectrum" and another Rs 20,000 crores to enhance capacity. This is expected to keep the data available to customers as dependency on wireless communication surges in India.

The CEO said Airtel can ensure home delivery of SIM cards and customers can make payments online. Telecom is part of essential services as many parts of the country are under a lockdown.

Vittal cautioned them against the rapid increase in cyber frauds, as many across age groups adopt digital payments. "There has been a massive increase in cyber frauds. And as usual, fraudsters are always finding new ways to trick you," he added.

He highlighted that Airtel has come up with "an industry first" feature called Safe Pay which provides additional level of security when one makes transactions via Airtel Payments.
