Pune-based Serum Institute of India chief Adar Poonawalla will be provided Y category security across the country. The Union Home Ministry issued orders regarding this today after conducting a detailed threat assessment today. “Y Category” security involves the presence of 11 security personnel. The Serum Institute of India chief had earlier notified that the subsidized rate for the Centre was only for a “limited” period of time.
“The average price is around $20 but because of Modi government’s request, we are providing at subsidized rates.”
As a philanthropic gesture, Mr Poonawalla said that on behalf of the Serum Institute of India, he will reduce the price of the dose from Rs 400 to Rs 300 effective immediately. This will save thousands of crores of state funds. “This will enable more vaccinations and save countless lives”, Mr Poonawalla tweeted today.
