CHENNAI: Amid the
Covid-19 second wave, the
Tamil Nadu school education department on Wednesday asked
teachers not to go to schools from May 1.
Citing a surge in Covid-19 cases, teachers had wanted the government to allow them to work from home since schools remain closed for all classes except Class XII. The practical exams for Class
XII got over on April 24.
Class XII board exams, originally scheduled to begin on May 5, have been postponed.
"Teachers should give guidance to Class XII students for board exams from their houses. Teachers should ensure that other students watch bridge courses which are being telecast on Kalvi TV and practise the worksheets. They should use WhatsApp and other digital platforms to interact with the students and parents," school education director S Kannappan said in a circular to all chief educational officers on Wednesday.
"Teachers may have to come to schools at the end of May to prepare the schools for next academic year and continue the bridge courses. A separate announcement will be given later," he further said in the circular.
More than 3.5 lakh teachers are working in government schools. A majority of these teachers are using public transport.
While imposing the night curfew, the state government asked faculty in colleges and universities to take online classes from their homes. However, it didn't mention anything about
school teachers.
