The Meg 2 starts shooting in January 2022, says star Jason Statham. The actor updated Collider on the giant shark sequel during an interview to discuss the upcoming Guy Ritchie film Wrath of Man. Here's his full quote:

"We're gonna start shooting in January, if I get my dates right. Ben Wheatley is the director, I'm very excited to work with him. I'm thrilled to get going, it's been a while. We've been waiting around for the right scripts to come in and the right director to turn up, and we've got all those things and they're all stacked up now."

Statham also praised Ben Wheatley, who's taking over directing duties from original The Meg director Jon Turteltaub:

"Yeah [Wheatley's] great. We have a great shorthand already. We've got similar taste. I like his movies, I think he's a brilliant director. I think we've got a good shot at making something good."

The Meg, of course, was a 2018 giant shark horror/action film in which Jason Statham did battle with the massive prehistoric beast after a team of scientists accidentally opened a path for it to return to shallow waters. In our The Meg review, we remarked poignantly that "it's a giant shark movie"--as in, what more could you want?

"Most importantly of all, the Meg looks amazing, and it's both thrilling and fun to watch its enormous fin slice through the water as it closes in on its prey," our review reads.

Suffice it to say we're excited for The Meg--or dare we say "Megs"? to return.
