‘Hotspot’ Athwa zone leads in vaccination

Surat: Over 1.59 lakh residents of the Athwa zone — the ‘Covid-19 hotspot’ of Surat — have been vaccinated, the highest among the eight civic zones of the city. According to SMC officials, 8.76 lakh people have been vaccinated so far in the city. More than seven lakh people have taken their first dose of vaccination so far in the city. Athwa zone has been reporting the highest number of daily Covid-19 cases for the last few months and it is one of the posh areas of Surat. Till now, 16,007 cases have been reported from Athwa zone.
“Residents of this zone have extended their support and came forward for vaccination,” said an SMC official.
