The next Apple Pencil could get more interesting heres how
Tech giant Apple has filed a new patent that describes the addition of new functionalities to the Apple Pencil, as per a report by Patently Apple.

According to the patent, Apple plans to incorporate a sliding mechanism on the side of the Pencil that could be used to increase or decrease the thickness of the pen input on an iPad. It could also be used to change the opacity levels. Apple has included some diagrams in the patent filing to elucidate the new concept of the Pencil. As per an explanatory diagram in the patent, sliding your finger along the side of the pencil, towards the writing tip, could activate a window with four options on your iPad: increase/decrease the thickness of the pen input, increase/decrease the opacity, reverse or switch off.

Apart from sliding, there could also be tapping gestures with functions that will activate on a certain number of taps. For example, as per a diagram included in the patent filing, double-tapping at a designated place close to the tip of the pen could let you toggle between four options: switch between the tool you are currently using and the eraser, show the colour palette, switch the current tool for a new one or switching the pencil off.

All these small additions would make the Apple Pencil more interesting to use with the iPad, if the patent sees the light of the day and Apple does decide to integrate it into the final design.
