Drunk man drives police vehicle in Tirupur, causes accident

COIMBATORE: A drunk man drove a police vehicle and caused an accident in Tirupur on Tuesday afternoon.
The police vehicle, an SUV, was parked near the Tirupur Corporation headquarters by driver Rajaguru from the city armed reserve police. He left the key in the vehicle and went somewhere.
S Vijay, 23, of Chengam in Thiruvannamalai district, who was drunk, noticed the key inside the SUV. Vijay is a car driver in Tirupur. He started the vehicle and sped away.
The SUV rammed a truck seven kilometres away. The vehicle overturned in the impact and was damaged.
Vijay, who suffered a fracture on a shoulder bon, was admitted to Tirupur Government Hospital.
Tirupur police officials said that they had initiated an inquiry into the incident. A detailed report would be submitted to city police commissioner G Karthikeyan. Based on the report, further action would be taken.
