Stocks open higher, look to add to records amid busy week for earnings

U.S. equity benchmarks opened mostly higher Tuesday, one day after setting a pair of records and on the second day of the busiest week for corporate earnings reports. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.01% slipped 0.2% or 56 points, trading near 33,926. at last check. The S&P 500 SPX, -0.02% added 5 points, 0.1%, to open near 4,193. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.34% jumped 32 points, or 0.2%, starting the session near 14,171. Roughly one-third of companies in the S&P 500 have reported their Q1 earnings so far, and about 80% of those have beaten forecasts, according to FactSet data. One such beat was Tesla Inc. TSLA, -4.53%, which reported after the bell Monday. Shares were lower Tuesday morning.
