Police arrest 7 people, rescue two men from their clutches

Mangaluru, Apr 27(UNI) Police have arrested seven people on charges of kidnapping and demanding cash, gold and land documents for release of Ahmed Ashraf, chief of an online training centre and his friend Javid.
Speaking to mediapersons, City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said on Tuesday that those arrested were identified as Yaqub, Ahmed Iqbal, Umar Nawaf, Samsheer, Mohammad Kausar, Naushad and Sheikh Muhammad Riyaz.
Police have also seized three cars, machete, gold necklace and land documents from the accused.
It has been alleged that in the past, accused Ahmed Iqbal had invested in the business of Ahmed Ashraf. However, later, there was a discord between the two. In this backdrop, Ahmed Iqbal had reportedly kidnapped Ahmed Ashraf on April 22 and had kept him in confinement for two days during which the latter was physically assaulted.
Police rescued Ahmed Iqbal, his friend Javid and arrested seven people.
The Commissioner said the main accused Umar Nawaf had tested positive for coronavirus and was under treatment. The other accused were produced before the court, he added.
