Aurangabad/Mumbai, Apr 26 (UNI) Maharashtra Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat on Monday said the decision on free COVID vaccine for all adults in the state should have been announced by CM Uddhav Thackeray.
“An attempt by others to take credit for it was not good,” the Minister said in an indirect attack at state Minorities Affairs Minister Nawab Malik who on Sunday made the announcement.
Also NCP spokesman, Mr Malik told that the state government will float global tenders for providing affordable and quality COVID vaccines for free to adult citizens.
Talking to media persons, senior Congress leader Thorat further said, “Our role is clear. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has insisted that the vaccine should be given free of cost.”
“The battle of credit is on, it's not right. Decision should be announced by the Chief Minister in this regard,” he curtly remarked.
He also seemed rattled with Mr Malik’s announcement, reasoning that the discussion in the matter is underway hence it’s “not appropriate to declare (free-vaccination-for-all decision) for credit”.
Further justifying the stand, Mr Thorat asserted, “There will be confusion (in the vaccination drive for all adults) and corona proliferation will increase. In this regard, I have discussed with the Chief Secretary that we should decide our policy, which will be finalised in two days.”
