Death of two patients not due to a technical glitch in supply of Oxygen, but due to COVID : Collector clarifies

Vizianagaram, Apr 26 (UNI) Vizianagaram District Collector Hari Jawaharlal on Monday clarified that the death of two patients in Maharaja Central hospital here was not due to a technical glitch in supply of oxygen but due to COVID-19.
He said that about 25 Covid-19 patients who are on ventilator support were shifted to other hospitals in Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam Districts in the early hours of today due to disruption in oxygen supply at Maharaja Central Hospital.
After developing a technical glitch, a low-pressure supply of oxygen was caused to those who were on oxygen support at around 3 AM and the medical staff have immediately shifted the patients on ventilator support to different hospitals to save their lives, the Collector said.
Due to the timely response by the Medical staff at the hospital in shifting the patients to other hospitals, the lives of the patients were saved, he said.
Mr Jawaharlal appealed to the family members of the patients not to get panic as the patients were safe.
The restoration works for the supply of oxygen is currently underway and there are 296 patients undergoing treatment in the hospitals, he added.
According to hospital authorities, the incident occurred due to a technical glitch in the oxygen supply and not due to shortage or lack of supply of oxygen.
We are currently providing oxygen to 150 people at the hospital, the authorities added.
