Jack McGrath faces extended spell on sidelines after hip operation
Ulster and Ireland prop Jack McGrath is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after he underwent surgery on a troublesome hip injury last week.
McGrath hasn't played since November 2020, but he will hope that having now gone under the knife, he can finally put this issue to bed.
Hip injuries are notoriously difficult, but having seen his former team-mate Sean O'Brien bounce back from the brink of retirement due to a similar problem, McGrath will hope to regain full fitness in time.
The 31-year-old joined Ulster from Leinster in 2019 and has made 17 appearances for the northern province. McGrath will now begin his rehab programme as he begins to work his way back to action.
The loosehead, who has won 56 caps for Ireland, is the only player included in Ulster's weekly injury bulletin ahead of Friday night's Challenge Cup semi-final against Leicester Tigers.
Dan McFarland will be demanding a big response from his side, who fell to a disappointing late defeat to Connacht in their Rainbow Cup opener last weekend.
