The premium smartphone market is growing at a very fast pace in India. Vivo with X60 series aims to make its space in the premium segment. The X60 series is the successor of the X50 series launched last year. We at BW Businessworld tested the Vivo X60 Pro for more than twenty days and here is our report.

Design & Display: The design is something that is carried on from its previous generations but the feel of the smartphone has changed drastically. When we held Vivo X50 (Read Review) last year, it was something like Vivo just entered the premium segment, whereas the hands-on feel of Vivo X60 Pro is far more evolved and premium and its curved display, light and sleeker look make it a strong contender in the segment.

At the back, X60 Pro gets the AG glass with Satin finish which is less prone to fingerprint smudges. You can hold the smartphone for hours as it is lightweight and ergonomically designed. The one-hand usage with the smartphone is also really practical. Like X50 and V20 series, Vivo X60 Pro also gets the two-step camera module stacked at the rear panel.

The thing which made X60 pro more special is its curved display with a bezel-less design. Both the top and bottom bezels are extremely thin and enhance the premium feel of the device.  On the bottom side, there is a Type-C port, a single speaker grille, and a SIM tray, whereas Volume rockers and the power button sit on the right side of the smartphone.

At the front, the Vivo X60 pro gets a 6.56-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. During our usage, most of the time, we used the Smart switch option offers a variable refresh rate option that intelligently shifts the refresh rate according to the need. It also saves the battery and the overall display panel feels smoother, faster, and more responsive.

Moreover, the smartphone is HDR10+ certified which implies that you will not face any issue with contrast and brightness. More importantly, we didn’t face any issues while operating it under direct sunlight. The X60 Pro also offers eye protection mode in the drop-down panel which turns the display color a little yellowish.

Watching content on a smartphone is a treat for the eyes. The display panel offers sharp and vibrant colors with great viewing angles. The panel also houses a Hole-punch styled front camera with a slightly bigger border. The optical fingerprint reader is positioned underneath the display and works swiftly. Overall, the display is worth every penny you are spending on the smartphone.

Camera: Believe us it is the most interesting part of the smartphone, Vivo X60 Pro gets a two-step camera module at the rear. This time, Vivo collaborated with ZEISS for its lenses. It gets the 48MP primary camera with a Sony IMX598 sensor and Gimbal Stabilization 2.0, 5-axis VIS. This is an enhanced version of Gimbal stabilization which we saw in Vivo X50 Pro last year. Moving ahead, it gets the 13MP ultra-wide lens with 120-degree FOV which also doubles up as a macro lens. Lastly, it boasts a 13MP portrait lens.

Now talking about the performance, it produces crisp pictures and details in daylight. When shooting under direct sunlight, the results really amazed us. Usually, cameras over-expose the whites but X60 Pro balances very well. The colors in the photos look very real and accurate. The low light or Night photography is also improved a lot from its previous generation, all thanks to its Supermoon mode and Astro mode. However, we didn’t get the chance to explore the Astro mode in New Delhi, all thanks to pollution.

The portrait mode has the capabilities to adjust the blur level and it detects the outline very well. The macro capability is also something you can count on. Overall, these are the best set of rear cameras I have ever used under the 60k segment. Talking of the front camera, Vivo X60 pro boasts 32-megapixel primary sensor with an f/2.45 lens. It also gets the manual aperture for selfies and it too works effortlessly. The selfies capture lots of details and embrace true colors. As far as videos are concerned, Vivo X60 Pro can shoot up to 4K videos at 60fps. The videos recorded in daylight conditions were rich in colors and have a High dynamic range. Shooting in low-light conditions amazed us with the clarity that it offered. Altogether, you are getting the best cameras in the segment.

Performance: Under the hood, the Vivo X60 pro gets the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor. However, it is not the flagship one, but it doesn’t imply that you are compromising with performance. I tested the smartphone for more than 15 days and it didn’t disappoint me at any point in time.

The X60 Pro gets 12 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage, Moreover, it also gets 3 GB extra RAM which is named Virtual RAM. Actually, the smartphone uses internal storage to create this extra virtual RAM. The phone can easily manage all the tasks of your day without any lag, yes we did not have any problem of lag or heating in the phone during the review.

This was the first time we were using this processor. OnePlus 9R also comes with the same processor but we didn't get our hands over it yet. I didn’t feel it for a sec that I am not using a flagship processor. We played lots of heavy games such as Call of Duty, Free fire, and a few more to test its potential and it always performed well. While playing Call of Duty, the X60 pro was slightly warm to touch but it is generic to almost every smartphone. The X60 Pro works on Funtouch OS 11.1 based on Android 11. The Interface is great but you still get a few bloatware and you can easily uninstall these if not needed. Talking about the battery, it gets a 4,200mAh battery that can easily last for a day in a moderate usage scenario. With a 33W bundled charger, it can regain its juice in one hour and 15 minutes. As far as sound is concerned, Vivo could have given stereo speakers to enhance the entertainment experience.

Verdict: Vivo X60 pro not only checks all the boxes but also tops in the features as well. The smartphone offers a trendy and premium design, a curved display, and the best set of cameras. This time, Vivo worked on the performance side as well, introducing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC.  Moreover, Gimbal stabilization makes it unique among the competitors and works really well. So, if you are looking for a smartphone with great camera abilities, Vivo X60 gets our recommendation.
