VIZIANAGARAM: Two COVID-19 patients on ventilator support passed away reportedly due to an interruption in oxygen supply at Vizianagaram district's Maharaja Central Hospital in the early hours of Monday.

However, the district collector Hari Jawaharlal clarified that the deaths took place due to COVID-19 and not due to glitches in the oxygen supply.

Following disruption in oxygen supply at the government hospital, around 25 COVID-19 patients on ventilator support had to be shifted to other hospitals in Vizianagaram district and Visakhapatnam.

"Around 3 AM, there was a technical glitch in the supply of oxygen when the pressure levels came down creating problems in the supply," he explained, further adding that the restoration works for the gas are underway. This led to the shifting of the patients to other private hospitals of Vizianagaram and Vizag.

There are a total of 290 patients who are undergoing treatment in the hospital and of them, 25 are on oxygen support, he said.
