Coronavirus Cases in India: The recovery rate is 82.62 per cent.

New Delhi:

New cases of coronavirus infection in India were recorded over 3.50 lakh, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,73,13,163 according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The COVID-19 active caseload is 28,13,658 which now comprises 16.25 per cent of the total infections.

The recovery rate is 82.62 per cent, the data stated.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have assured India and its people of providing all assistance, including urgently sending necessary medical life-saving supplies and equipment, to help the country combat the deadly coronavirus crisis.

"Just as India sent assistance to the United States as our hospitals were strained early in the pandemic, we are determined to help India in its time of need," Joe Biden said in a tweet.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Odisha reports 6,599 new COVID-19 cases, 9 deaths in last 24 hours

As many as 6,599 new COVID-19 cases, 3,464 recoveries and nine deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, informed state health department on Monday.

With this, the total number of confirmed cases soared to 4,14,056 of which 3,62,931 have recovered and 1,997 succumbed so far. The active cases stand at 49,075.

Of the fresh cases, 3,827 were detected among people in quarantine and 2,772 were local contacts.

As per the state government data, out of the total reported cases, Khurda accounted for the most number of cases with 958 followed by Kalahandi with 518 cases, and Cuttack with 488 cases.

4,211 new COVID-19 cases in Thane, 46 more deaths

With the addition of 4,211 new cases of coronavirus, the tally in Maharashtra's Thane district has reached 4,50,587, an official said on Monday.

These new cases were reported on Sunday, he said.

The virus also claimed the lives of 46 more people, raising the death toll in the district to 7,278, he said.

The COVID-19 mortality rate in Thane is 1.62 per cent, he added.

The details of recovered patients and active cases were not provided by the district administration.

COVID-19: US lawmakers rally behind India in its hour of crisis

Top US lawmakers rallied behind India in its hour of crisis urging the Biden administration to provide material and healthcare assistance to India to help save lives from the deadly coronavirus.

In a rare move, at a time when the Congress is bitterly divided on political lines, Senators Mark Warner from the ruling Democratic party and John Cornyn from the opposition Republican party jointly called on the White House to accelerate its assistance to India.

"As co-chairs of the Senate India Caucus, we urged them to do everything possible to help our friends in India in the midst of this COVID-19 crisis," Warner said.

"Glad to also be joined in this effort by Senator Susan Collins too. Support for our ally India is bipartisan. We should do everything we can to help them fight back against COVID-19."

Warner and Cornyn, the two powerful Senators in their respective parties, are co-chairs of the Senate India Caucus, the only country-specific caucus in the United States'' Senate.

Germany will send oxygen, medical aid to India to help in Covid crisis
Germany will send oxygen and medical aid to India in the coming days to help it tackle its COVID-19 crisis, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said. India is suffering from a spike in coronavirus infections, with the number of cases surging by 349,691 in the past 24 hours, the fourth straight day of record peaks. Hospitals are turning away patients after running out of medical oxygen.

Odisha to provide free COVID vaccination to all citizens
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik oannounced free vaccination against COVID-19 for all citizens of the state in the age group of 18 to 44 years. The state will spend Rs 2,000 crore on this vaccination drive, said the Chief Minister's Office.

The chief minister said: "Every life is precious for us. We want everyone in the state to be safe. For that the state government has taken the decision that people in the age group of 18 to 44 years will not have to pay money for COVID vaccination, as this is the responsibility of the government to take care of its people."
