COIMBATORE: An unidentified gang broke open a Tasmac liquor shop located at the Lawley Road - Marudhamalai Road junction in Coimbatore in the early hours of Monday and stole Rs 10.72 lakh in cash. The gang took away some bottles of liquor too. Supervisor of the Tasmac shop (No 1725) Velusamy told the RS Puram (crime) police that he had to deposit the amount in a nearby bank. Saturday was a bank holiday and so he kept the Friday sale amount in a steel locker at the shop. Due to the total lockdown on Sunday, there was more sale on Saturday. He kept the two days' collection of Rs 10,72,270 in the steel locker. At 10am on Monday, Velusamy returned to the shop and found the steel shutter locks broken. The supervisor immediately informed the R S Puram police who rushed to the spot. Fingerprint experts visited the crime scene. They lifted a few fingerprints. Deputy commissioner of police (crime), Coimbatore city, E S Uma also visited the crime spot. Two special teams have been formed to nab the culprits.
