BOKAJAN, April 26: Police seized 775 grams of heroin worth Rs 5.5 crore from an SUV vehicle on NH 36 bordering Nagaland in Karbi Anglong on Sunday.
Based on specific information, a police team intercepted a Tata Safari vehicle bearing registration number AS-01-ET-0910 and on checking the vehicle, the police recovered a total of 70 soap boxes containing 775 grams of suspected heroin concealed inside the bonnet and ceiling of the vehicle.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment was brought from Manipur. One person identified as Majid Ali was arrested in connection with the case. Ali is a resident of Lilong, Manipur. The approximate value of the seized consignment is Rs 5.5 crore,” said a senior police official here.
The operation was carried out under the leadership of Dillai police station officer-in-charge SI Bitupan Chutia, ASI Jiten Gogoi and other police personnel.
