Mavericks vs Lakers Quarter 4

Lakers scored 21 points in the 3rd Q, and just 12 in the 4th Q with 1:29 left.

McLemore lost Redick, who hit a wide-open corner 3 to put DAL up 7 with just 2:35 to play.

Kuzma rimmed out a 3 on the other end, and LAL is 0 for 7 in the period.

Schroder with a big stretch, first an explosive dunk through the Dallas paint, then a steal and dish for McLemore layup that has LAL up 87-83 with 7:44 to play.

That’s 16 points and 9 assists thus far for Schroder.

AD returns at the 8:34 mark, with 20 minutes played thus far. Vogel thought he’d be around the 25-minute mark.

Davis is 3 for 4 at the rim, but just 1 for 10 on jump shots (0 for 4 3’s). We’ll see from where he gets his looks here in the 4th Q.

LAL lead 85-83.

LAL’s bench is just 5 for 20 from the field.

Caruso has 7 points, with 5 coming at the FT line.

Morris has been steady for a few months now but is just 2 for 11 tonight, and 0 for 6 from 3.

Schroder thought he was tripped w/6 sec. left; no call and LAL then let Hardaway walk into a transition 3 at the buzzer. Five-point swing = a tie game at 79.

Rough quarter for the Lakers, who led by 17 late in the 2nd Q, but were outscored 33-21 in the 3rd.

Mavericks vs Lakers Quarter 3

The Laker had a double-digit lead at halftime. The Mavericks have done really well to cut the deficit. The score is tied at 79.

Davis looked like he took some contact to his left leg there under the rim, though he’s stayed in the game and been moving fine.

It was the right calf that he injured back in February.

Anthony Davis continues to search for his rhythm on offense, and he’s been off with his jump shot.

He’s 3 for 3 around the rim, but 1 for 9 on jumpers, including 0 for 4 from 3.

DAL has trimmed LAL’s 17-point lead to 7 at 65-58.

Mavericks vs Lakers Quarter 2

LAL’s lead is 58-46 heading into halftime, as DAL trimmed 5 points off their biggest lead, thanks in part to 3 FT’s in the final second when Caruso – who challenges every shot – caught body contact w/Brunson on a 3.

LAL were +5 in turnovers, +4 in 3’s made and -8 in FTA’s.

Anthony Davis is up to 12 points on 4 of 9 FG’s after a pretty transition finish at the rim.

Lakers commit 2 back-to-back turnovers.

The Lakers go on a 10-0 run, Mavericks take a timeout. Lakers lead 54-37 with 2.22 left.

A wide-open corner 3 from Kuz came as a result of a double team of AD on the block. He kicked it out, leading to a swing-swing around the perimeter.

Tech on Luka for yelling at the official, though McLemore missed the FT.

Davis converted his first 2 FTA’s of the evening, though, and Drummond added a short hook to put LAL up 40-32, their biggest lead thus far.

A solid stretch from Marc Gasol, who was a +4 in his 9 minutes, with 4 boards and 2 assists without an attempted shot.

LAL has held DAL to 2 for 8 FG’s in the 2nd Q, enough for them to hold a 34-30 lead despite 37.5% FG’s for the game. Mavs are 1 for 7 from 3.

LAL takes a 26-23 lead out of the 1st Q despite shooting just 36%, thanks to 6 made 3’s compared to 1 from the Mavs.

From 2, LAL was just 3 for 12, compared to DAL going 8 for 14. LAL was also +2 on turnovers.

Mavericks vs Lakers Quarter 1

Ben McLemore has four 3-pointers in just 9 minutes.

Frank Vogel said he wanted to keep using all of the guys he might need in the postseason, and tonight it’s Marc Gasol getting the early backup 5 minutes instead of Montrezl Harrell.

McLemore is still finding his way defensively for the Lakers, but he’s doing his primary job on offense tonight, already hitting 3 triples for 9 of LAL’s 18 points as they lead 18-17 with 4:30 left in the 1st.

The biggest difference in Thursday night’s game was at the FT line, where Dallas attempted 36, compared to just 17 for LAL.

Typically, LAL is strong there, giving up the 5th fewest FTA’s (19.6), and attempting the 6th most (23.3). DAL got the 1st 3 attempts tonight and leads 8-3.

Mavericks vs Lakers Pre-Game Updates and Starting 5

With Porzingis and Richardson out for Dallas, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Maxi Kleber will start.

KCP is out for tonight’s game due to the right ankle sprain.

Ben McLemore will get his first start as a Laker in KCP’s place. He started 4 games for Houston this season.

KCP had hit at least 5 3’s in 3 straight games for LAL, including 6 vs. DAL on Thursday.

Kristaps Porzingis and Josh Richardson are both out tonight for the Mavs.

Maxi Kleber, who missed last game, is available.

Frank Vogel said the plan for the final 13 games is to try and keep everybody engaged ahead of the playoffs, potentially so that he can call upon certain guys in certain matchups when needed in the playoffs. He did the same thing last season, esp. in the bubble seeding games.

Anthony Davis responded well to his first game back, and his minutes will be extended to around 25.

The Lakers have been able to keep their heads above water despite the absence of two of their best players, but they will be kicking themselves after falling just short to the Mavericks on Thursday.

It’s always tough to beat the same team twice in a row. Kristaps Porzingis is listed as questionable with an ankle sprain.
