NEW DELHI" The United States will send raw materials "urgently required" to Covishield vaccine in India amid an unprecedented rise in Covid-19 cases, US National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan said.
US NSA Jake Sullivan on Sunday spoke to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval over the current Covid-19 situation in India and "agreed to stay in close touch in the coming days".
"United States has identified sources of specific raw material urgently required for Indian manufacture of Covishield vaccine that will immediately be made available for India," Sullivan said in a statement.
"US Development Finance Corporation (DFC) is funding a substantial expansion of manufacturing capability for BioE, the vaccine manufacturer in India, enabling BioE to ramp up to produce at least 1 billion Covid-19 doses of vaccines by end of 2022," he added.
United States will also be deploying an expert team of public health advisors from Center for Disease Control (CDC) & USAID to work in close collaboration with US Embassy and the Central government.
