New Delhi: A week after former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) trauma centre, his condition is stated to be stable and he is “recovering well”.
Doctors at AIIMS told ThePrint that Singh’s condition is “hemodynamically stable”.
Haemodynamic stability is a medical term used to describe a stable blood flow. It means the patient has stable blood pressure and heart rate.
“Manmohan Singh is hemodynamically stable. He is recuperating and doing well. There is no immediate concern as such, we are closely monitoring him,” a senior doctor at the hospital, who did not wish to be named, told ThePrint.
On Saturday, Congress’ chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala had also said Singh’s condition was stable, and that he was recovering well. “He has had no episodes of fever,” Surjewala said.
Singh, 88, was admitted to AIIMS trauma centre, a dedicated Covid facility, on 19 April after he complained of mild fever and later tested Covid positive. The Congress leader has been inoculated with both doses of the vaccine.
Manmohan Singh’s letter to PM Modi
A day before Singh was admitted to the hospital, he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Covid-19 crisis in the country and had urged him to “resist the temptation to look at the absolute number of vaccinations and focus on the percentage of the population vaccinated”.
The former prime minister had also listed out suggestions on the pandemic, which included publicising firm orders for doses placed with different vaccine producers and allowing states more flexibility to plan the rollouts.
Responding to Singh’s letter, Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan had alleged that Congress-ruled states were engaged in spreading doubts regarding the efficacy of the vaccines and also accused them of playing with the lives of countrymen.
On 19 April, the Centre announced that everyone above the age of 18 will be eligible to get vaccinated from 1 May. Registrations for the same will open from 28 April.
