New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi claimed on Sunday that the truth about the pandemic was shrouded and that there were fewer reports of deaths. ‘Cover the truth. Deny oxygen deficiency. Underreport deaths. The Government of India (GOI) is doing everything … to save its false image, ‘he said on Twitter.
He shared the cover of ‘The New York Times’ with a photo of cremations performed and made headlines,’ If Covid If India is destroyed, the right toll is too little ”. Rahul Gandhi had earlier claimed that the “system had failed” and that it was the party’s duty to provide assistance to fellow citizens suffering from the sudden outbreak in COVID-19 cases in the country.
His comments come on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his radio program ‘Mann ki Baat’ that the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic shook the country and the people assured that the center is working with all its might to help the states. “The system has failed, so it’s important to benefit Jan ki,” Gandhi said on Twitter.
“In this crisis, the country needs responsible citizens. “I urge my colleagues in Congress to leave all political work – just give all help and alleviate the pain of our countrymen,” he added.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that “hiding data” and not sharing the total number of infections and deaths was doing the country a disservice. He said the data, however serious it may be, makes us aware and vigilant and calls for a “course correction”.
“The Modi government has bulged. “If the government of Modi has abandoned its people and refused its duty, please do course correction and let us work together,” he told reporters.
