Delhi extends lockdown for another week till May 3

The Delhi government on Sunday has extended the lockdown by another week till 5 am on Monday (May 3). In a live press conference on Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said lockdown is the only weapon that can control the covid situation in the city.

Kejriwal urged all the people from Delhi to not panic in these hard times as his government with centre doing every possible thing to control the situation the city. Kejriwal further said that the National Capital is witnessing an unprecedented positivity rate.

Last week, Kejriwal had ordered a six-day lockdown till Monday (April 26), calling it a necessary step to break the chain of covid infection. Kejriwal said if his government will not impose a lockdown, people may have to face a bigger calamity. The government will take full care of their citizen in these hard times, Kejriwal said.

As top hospitals in Delhi continuously sending SOS messages over oxygen shortage, Kejriwal on Saturday evening urged all the chief ministers of states to provide oxygen to Delhi, if they have spare.

Earlier, Delhi CM has appealed to all the migrant workers not to leave the city during the lockdown. Kejriwal said we all have to fight together as the city witnessing a hard time.

According to the health ministry data on Saturday, Delhi has witnessed 24,103 fresh covid cases with 357 deaths.

There are 93,080 active Covid-19 cases in Delhi, taking the total Covid-19 tally of the city to 1,004,782. The death toll in the national capital mounted to 13,898. The positivity rate in Delhi stood at 32.27% and the case fatality rate was at 1.38%.

On Saturday, 20 people died at Delhi’s Jaipur Golden Hospital as the facility waited for oxygen to be replenished.

India is one of the worst hit country by the novel coronavirus in the world. Nearly 3.5 lakh new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours. The health infrastructure of the country is under stress due to the sudden spike in covid cases and the shortage of medical oxygen.
