Odisha: New Covid hospital at Vimsar to be ready by Tuesday

The new 300-bed Covid-19 hospital at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, will be ready by April 27.
The hospital that will include 250 general beds with oxygen facility and 50 ICU beds will be made functional in a new six-storey building which was constructed to accommodate the medicine ward of VIMSAR. Of the six floors, five will be utilized to make the Covid-19 hospital functional.
The beds for the new hospital have already been procured. Currently, installation of gas pipelines is going on in the building. Ventilators will be installed after that.
Director of VIMSAR, Lalit Meher, said, the existing 120-bed Covid hospital of VIMSAR, will also be converted into a 225-bed hospital by Sunday.
While the number of general beds of the existing Covid-19 hospital will be increased to 175 from 100, the number of ICU beds will be increased to 50 beds from 20, he said.
The government took the decision to set up a new Covid-19 hospital at VIMSAR and increase the number of beds of the existing Covid-19 hospital because of the surge in Covid cases in western Odisha.
