Railways a key supply chain link despite small oxygen amount ferried

At 150 tonnes, the quantity may be small, but Railways is an important pathway for oxygen from large infra projects located far away to urban clusters

The Indian Railways has ferried 150 metric tonnes (MT) of oxygen to Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh till now and will be transporting a similar quantity by Monday. This is just a blip compared to the nearly 6,600 MT per day medical oxygen production and allocation of the country.

But it acts as an important pathway for oxygen from large infrastructure projects to urban clusters. These projects such as steel plants and oil refineries are situated far away from major cities where the Covid-19 pandemic has wrecked most havoc.
