Veteran actor Potti Veeraiah has died

Hyderabad: Veteran actor and character artist Potti Veeraiah passed away on Sunday after a short illness at his home in the city.

Potti Veeraiah hails from the small town of Phanigiri in the Nalgonda district and has appeared in more than 400 films in a film career that spanned five long decades. The actor, originally named Gattu Veeraiah, has been suffering from health problems for some time. Knowing his fate, Megastar Chiranjeevi recently extended Rs 2 lakh financial aid.

Potti Veeraiah made his debut with B Vittalacharya director ‘Aggi Veerudu’ starring NT Rama Rao and Rajasree. Later he watched presentations from film production companies while portraying comic and dwarf characters in films such as ‘Radhamma Pelli’, ‘Tata Manavadu’, ‘Tarjan Sundari’, ‘Jaganmohini’, ‘Pedarasi Peddamma Katha’ etc.

The veteran actor had the privilege of sharing screen space with senior and veteran movie stars such as MG Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Kantha Rao, Rajinikanth and Krishna. Several actors from the Telugu and South Indian film industry have expressed their shock at his passing.
