Kamjong, April 23 2021:
The 'School Fagathansi Mission' launched by Chief Minister, N Biren Singh to improve the Government schools both in terms of physical and manpower infrastructure at par with the private schools has seen some remarkable results since its implementation.
However, no visible trace of the 'School Fagathansi mission' is seen in Kasom Khullen Sub-division in Kamjong district, said Kasom Khullen Sub-division Development Association after carrying out an inspection of the schools.
Kasom Khullen Sub-division Development Association chairman, Petei Lu stated that there are 44 villages in Kasom Khullen Subdivision with Kasom Khullen High School being the oldest school.
The school has been operated by the village since 1960 and was recognised by the Government in 1972.The school was allocated as an exam centre by the State education board since 2010 and has more than 200 students presently, he added.
The chairman expressed his anguish over the deplorable condition of the school infrastructure and mentioned that expenses for repair works have been barely managed by the village.
The village also hired additional 5 teachers to aid the 5 teachers allocated by the Government.
He also raised questions over the condition of other schools in the district if the situation in the district headquarters is already in such dire state.
Nowadays, children's education requires a huge amount of money if they are sent to private schools in Imphal and since most of the villagers are poor, a large number of students have no choice but to drop out.
The villagers have been pleading for a Higher secondary school for many years but to no avail.
Nambasi High School is the only school where repairs are done but no such work is carried out in Kasom, he added.
The chairman further lamented that the assurances given by the former Education Minister, Radheshyam have not been fulfilled and appealed to the present Education Minister to look into the condition of schools in the area.
He continued that Kasom is not even 63 Km from Imphal, but the 'School Fagathansi Mission' of the State Government is still not implemented in the district and appealed authority concerned to the mission so that the schools of the area would have similar infrastructures and manpower like the schools in Imphal.
Meanwhile, the headman of Kasom Khullen Headquarters, Wungwung Shinglai, speaking to a media person stated that the Community hall of Kasom Khullen HQ which was constructed in 1986 has been in a very dire state and appealed to the State Government to construct a new community hall for the welfare of the people of Kasom Khullen.
